Catalpa ovata
Creamy white to yellow, bell shaped, orchid-like flowers form clusters of blossoms that light up these small trees in early July. The flowers are marked with deep purple and orange inner spots. Tolerant of poor soils and seasonal flooding, a tree to grow in difficult areas adding beauty and interest. One of the last trees to leaf out in the spring and one of the first to lose leaves in the fall. Large ovate leaves have 3-5 lobes. Long slender seed pods follow the blossoms and remain on the trees into the winter.
