Viburnum prunifolium
This southern cousin to our northern nannyberry grows larger sweeter fruit, much beloved by song and game birds and mammals. Fruit becomes more edible after a frost. Creamy white clustered flowers that bloom in May/June are a favourite of wild bees. Dark green opposite leaves turn reddish purple in the fall. A traditional medicine used by indigenous peoples to prevent spasms, amongst other things.
