Pyrus communis
Also known as Sugar Pear, extremely sweet, buttery smooth, aromatic and juicy. Named after the Pennsylvania farmer that first introduced it in the 18th century. Thomas Jefferson said that it “exceeded anything I have tasted since I left France and equalled any pear I had seen there.” A winter pear that blooms in mid spring and is harvested in the fall. Fire blight resistant. Requires another pear for pollination.
