Eleuthercoccus sieboldianus
The world of plants is classified by relationships. Although the common name of this plant is Aralia, it belongs to the genus of Eleuthercoccus, the same genus as Gensing, so they are related. In Chinese Medicine the five-finger appearance is likened to the head, arms and legs of the human body and it was traditionally considered a tonic for overall health. These robust plants are diocieous and do not produce seed without a partner. They are slightly thorny and helpful for keeping geese or neighbours off land. Largely admired for their glossy leaves and vigorous growth.
