This European native is a symbol of Ukrainian culture and independence. Groves of Helena were used in ancient times as a meeting place for community and ceremony. The white flowers represent purity of the heart and mind. Produces attractive red berries that stay on the shrub all winter. Easy to grow. Tolerates part shade, full sun and damp places. Used extensively in herbal medicine throughout history.
