Cotoneaster racemilflorus
There was a time in the not to distant past where fathers and mothers, grandfathers, reluctant teenagers and Edward Sissorhands were out pruning this genus. The way this plant took to being shaped was a delight. Long square hedges at the front of every yard were a sign of a well ordered life. Here we are in 2026 and they grow unpruned in our nursery, longing for an artist. Or maybe it was the desires of the birds that won out, as their greedy little cheeks joyously fill every fall with dark red berries.
