Ilex verticillata
This native holly thrives in wet areas, beside rivers, lakes or in marshy locations. Requires partial to full sun and do not live in full shade. The bright red-orange berries are eye-catching all winter and are a favourite for wreaths or bouquets. Holly has traditionally been a medicine for opening the heart. In pre-Christian Europe it was Holly water not Holy water that was used for blessing. The branches of holly would be dipped in water and splashed on people.
